WonderFest 2025 “WOW!” Award Winners
Dave Cook - “T’s Facto Godzilla vs Biollante”
Winning the “Wow” award meant a lot to me. WonderFest is the only event I attend where people recognize your effort. To be singled out by a group that focuses on kaiju modeling was quite an honor. These folks know their kaiju, and the award was doubly gratifying since it came from contemporaries who are accomplished modelers themselves. I didn’t know Robert, but I’m grateful to be part of how Kaiju Kastle and Kaiju Modeler keeps his legacy alive.
Tim LaCapra - “I Knew It! Captain America”
After years of wanting to attend WonderFest, I finally made it and was very happy and surprised to win any awards at all. I gathered my merit awards and my two bronze medals, then hurried back to Nashville. About an hour out from Louisville, I got a surprise call from Eric Hamilton: I’d won a “Wow” award for my Captain America piece. I was genuinely surprised and deeply humbled, especially after seeing the incredible talent on display at the show. I look forward to attending next year, seeing new friends, and hopefully WOWing someone again. Thanks again for this award — it sits on my desk at work with Captain beside it.
Richard Lucca - “Fright Night”
To win this “Wow” award has special meaning to me. Being inspired by Robert — and thinking that he would have approved of my entry — is both rewarding and humbling. Robert was my friend. He was everyone’s friend! Kind, giving, and engaging, Robert was one of those rare individuals who made you feel special and comfortable.
He would always answer when I called him, with his standard greeting, “Mr. Lucca!” Whether you needed modeling tips or fitness advice, he was there for you. Robert was unassuming, talented, and always came to my “Luccafest” weekends. I think about him every day, and am grateful and honored to have known him. He showed all of us how to live life to the fullest. Thank you Robert.
Timothy Seevers - “The Forbidden Pool”
Thank you again for the award! It really meant a great deal to me. Like so many others, I loved Robert. I first met him years ago, and his passion for the hobby — as well as his commitment to modelers’ personal fitness and health — was inspiring. He truly loved the hobby and the people in it. This was also the first special award I've ever received, and I deeply appreciate it. I was thrilled to get the little bust of him and already have plans for it! I think he would be proud of me, but I KNOW he'd be smiling!
